Message from Dean of Student Affairs

As an internationally recognised institution, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) prioritises a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion that empowers each student to grow and succeed. We recognise that students with diverse needs bring unique strengths, experiences, and aspirations to university life.

Over the years, HKU has made steady progress in strengthening support services, resources, and practices for students with diverse needs, particularly those with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Observing the substantial rise in the number of students with SEN and also a highly diversified community, we are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive campus where every student is supported to thrive academically, socially, and personally. This calls on us to continue enhancing our services so that support is timely, accessible, and responsive to individual needs.

Through consolidating HKU’s achievements in enhancing support services and resources for students, this integrated website demonstrates our active collaboration and dedication to embed inclusivity into every aspect of campus life. By showcasing stories of students and excellent practice of staff, we aim to break down stigmas and inspire our entire university community to champion inclusion in their everyday interactions.

Building an inclusive university is a shared responsibility. I encourage all colleagues to partner with us in co-creating a caring, compassionate, and enabling environment, where every student is recognised as a unique individual and encouraged to seek support when needed. Together, let us continue to dismantle barriers, expand opportunities, and build a campus where all students can belong and flourish.
