SEN Peer Impact Network (PIN)
SEN PIN is a vibrant student network that offers a range of service opportunities for students to work with people with disabilities, or SEN. Direct services include campus and community orientation, assistance in lecture note-taking, and being a study and support buddy. Peer support also helps with the creation of audio description scripts for existing videos on the university’s website.
Equal Opportunity Student Ambassadors (EOSAs)
The signature Equal Opportunity Student Ambassadors (EOSAs) programme aims to engage students who share the university’s vision to maintain a barrier-free campus environment for all, including but not limited to members of HKU with SEN. The programme recruits, trains, and encourages EOSAs to assist in different kinds of project planning related to equal opportunity for the benefit of the university community and to share inputs driving diversity and inclusiveness.
Joint-care training and briefing
General and customised training sessions on SEN-themed topics are provided for all members of the HKU community and relevant units. These include web accessibility, strategies for creating an inclusive campus environment, SEN support at HKU, and anti-discrimination ordinances. The sessions help the HKU community stay informed with the common goal of inclusivity in mind. Surveys and feedback forms are distributed to measure the effectiveness of the training.
Campus-wide events
The Libraries, CEDARS, and EOU have co-organized SEN Week 2024: ‘Embrace Inclusion, Empower Minds’ to promote SEN awareness through a series of workshops, webinars, and booth activities. Other participating parties include the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre, and HKJC Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention.
The International Days Series promotes the many International Days related to disability and special educational needs. SEN Thematic Book exhibitions were held to promote some of the international days and to share with all users the library’s selected collections on related topics. A reading list with additional e-books was also created for people with an interest in accessing the material online.
The Equal Opportunity Festival (EOF) is a flagship annual event held to promote values of equality, diversity, and inclusion. Through a wide range of talks, trainings, experiential tours, exhibitions, and competitions, EOF serves as an engaging platform to foster awareness and understanding about the importance of supporting students with SEN.
